U.S. SPENT NEARLY $5,000 A PERSON ON SOCIAL PROGRAMS

WASHINGTON (AP) - The federal government spent more than 1.32 TRILLION [emphasis added] -- or $4,996 per person -- in fiscal 1994 on domestic grants, benefits, subsidies, salaries and the purchase of goods and services.

Note that spending totalled $4996 for every man, woman and child in the
United States.  The article did not mention the amount spent per actual
beneficiary of the programs.
